VF In Active Talks To Buy Something

0 Comments 18 May 2009

VfcorpAccording to a story on Bloomberg.com VF Corp’s CEO Eric Wiseman is letting people know that he and the company are in “active discussions” on an outdoor/action sports acquisition. Wonder who that could be?

“There are lots of really interesting discussions about brands that may be appropriate,” Wiseman, 53, said in a May 15 interview at VF’s headquarters in Greensboro, North Carolina. “I hope we can make an interesting acquisition this year.”

The word before was that VF was gunning for DC Shoes. But with everything going down lately, we’re wondering why VF would take one little bite, when they could just chomp down on the whole thing. . .

Fired Surfer Wins The Battle

0 Comments 18 May 2009

0,,6631784,00.JpgFormer WCT surfer Shane Bevan was fired from his job as a baggage handler at Oceania Aviation Services twenty months ago after his employer accused him of participating in Queensland’s Coolum Classic surf contest while on “sick leave with a bad back” according to a story in The Australian.

But now, after two reviews by Australia’s Industrial Relations Commission it has been determined that hat Bevan should not have been fired.

The IRC initially upheld his sacking but, on appeal, a commission full bench last week supported Mr Bevan’s claim that the termination was harsh, unjust and unreasonable and ordered the company to pay compensation.

Nice work, Shane.

0516090309-781343.JpgWhen we read about Kyle Fischer getting jumped and “fully concused” on The Dirty Kids blog we weren’t sure what they were talking about. Now the Deseret News explains it all.

Salt Lake police were looking Monday for a group that robbed a man and beat him unconscious with his own skateboard. . . . The 21-year-old man was riding on 800 South near 200 East about 1:45 a.m. Saturday when three men attacked him, said Salt Lake police spokeswoman Lara Jones. The attackers beat the victim with his own skateboard, took his wallet, and left the victim on the ground unconscious, Jones said. . . The man regained consciousness before being sent to the hospital in serious condition.

We’re glad Kyle Fischer is okay and back to his Youtube video posting antics.
