Quiksilver Backs out of ASR Show

No Comments 18 December 2008

Wow, so some really bad news for ASR recently as Quiksilver said it will be pulling all their brands including Roxy, Quiksilver and Rasins out of the show in January. It is confirmed however that DC Shoes will be there.

Looks like ASR is in a bit of trouble with this happening, Quiksilver is a huge name in the industry and this will only go downhill from here. I would not at all be surprised to see other retailers follow suit and pull out with the economy as it is now. Most companies are simply not making what they need to with retail sales being about 30-60% off this year.

It really is survival of the fittest in this world and the strongest will survive.

Surfing and the Falling Economy

No Comments 14 December 2008

The New York Times writer Matt Higgins has analyzed the falling economy and its effects on surfing. He talks about Quiksilver and Pacific Sunwear’s fading stock prices and finds out for the most part that surfers don’t really care. He points out that its really the fashion industry having problems and not surfing.

Randy Rarick, the executive director of the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing, taking place on the North Shore of Oahu this week, said: “I have a little saying, ‘The stock market is down; surf is up.’ No matter what, you don’t have a paycheck coming in, you’re not doing anything, you can still go out and catch a wave.”

Volcom Opens Store in Las Vegas

No Comments 09 December 2008

Formerly the Aladdin Hotel and Casino, Planet Hollywood Hotel and Casino plays host to the Miracle Mile Shops where you can find Volcom Las Vegas – the 10th and latest Volcom Store to open in the U.S. This particular location is our first ever indoor mall venue, and like most malls, has everything from high end fashion to a gnarly food court. But only in Vegas will you find customers shopping with a jack and coke in hand, straight from the bar located in the center of the Miracle Mile shops. Or better yet, no other Volcom Store has customers stumbling in spending duckets of cash after winning big in the PH casino located only 50 feet from the store. That said, this Volcom Store is a double whammy experience for any Volcomite visiting Las Vegas.

The ultra-stoked store staff are bleeding Volcom and the merchandise is, as always, the latest and greatest including Limited Edition Volcom Las Vegas tees and hoodies. You can find the store easily accessible on the Las Vegas Blvd strip just inside the entrance to the Miracle Mile Shops. Whether you’re holding three of a kind or hitting on 15, Volcom Las Vegas is a sure bet on your next trip to Sin City!

Burton Brands Moving Out of SoCal

No Comments 05 December 2008

Looks like Burton has decided to move Forum, Foursquare and Special Blend to their headquarters in Vermont.

“In tough times like these, we need to be very strategic and efficient so we can continue to invest in our core strengths like product development and marketing, and this move allows us to do just that,” says The Program General Manager Sam Paschel. “In Burlington, The Program will benefit from over 30 years of Burton’s product development, sales and operations expertise while enjoying easy access to Burton’s shared services. And it will be great to have the company close to the mountains where we can easily test product on snow.”
