Billabong Pro Maui Update – More Lay Days

No Comments 16 December 2008

Looks like theres still no swell for the ladies of the Billabong Pro Maui 2008, making it the fifth day they’ve called off so far. We should see some swell hopefully in the next few days and with only a few hours or so needed to finish the event off, it should be finished sometime this week. The final day of the contest will decide the Maui champion, the Van’s Triple Crown of Surfing winner and the final 17 surfers for the 2009 Women’s World Tour.

Stay tuned for more updates.

2008 Billabong Pro Maui Update

No Comments 09 December 2008

So it looks like theres no swell for the ladies of the Billabong Pro Maui 2008 yet but it’s only a matter of time before Honolulu Bay gets fired up. Stephanie Gilmore has claimed the first spot position but the second is still up for grabs. This is the last event in the Van’s Triple Crown of Surfing and the last event in the 2008 Women’s World Tour.

“We’re obviously off today as the Bay is virtually flat,” Dino Andino, Billabong Pro Maui Contest Director, said. “That being said, it’s only Day 1 of the waiting period and we’re anticipating a fetch of swell to come through mid-week. We’ll just be monitoring the winds to see what happens.”

Event organizers will convene tomorrow at 7am tomorrow morning for a possible 8am start.

The waiting period for the Billabong Pro Maui will run from December 8 – 20, 2008.

The Billabong Pro Maui will be webcast LIVE via www.billabongpro.com
